Say Hello to the People Who Treat Your Pets Like Family

Stephanie is our lead veterinary technician and has been with us since Dr. Canavan took over Care Animal Hospital in 2022. She’s a Florida native and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Veterinary Technician Program at Sanford Brown College in 2015. Stephanie has worked mainly in general practice, but also has experience in urgent care. Stephanie’s area of expertise is in our lab running cytology samples and keeping our technicians on track. In her free time, she enjoys creating art and spending time with her children, her favorite child being Sami Bae (her chorkie). 

Charlcy (also called Charlie) is a part of our technician and management team. She has been a technician since 2011 and started with Dr. Canavan in 2022. Charlie enjoys teaching our clients about the best medicine for their animals, helping with surgery and managing aspects of our clinic so it can reach its fullest potential. Charlie has had almost every job one can have working with companion animals; such as pet sitting, farm jobs, grooming, and dog training. She loves all things animals which is apparent with all her furry, feathered and scaley kids. Currently, she owns 6 dogs, 3 cats, 3 ferrets, 7 guinea pigs, 3 chickens, some fish and an axolotl. When not working with us, she is either home taking care of what she lovingly calls “her funny farm” or is out on adventures with the dogs and her spouse.

Dawn is our head surgical veterinary technician and she loves all things surgery! She was born and raised in Pinellas County and realized after a time in cosmetology that animals where her true passion. Dawn started out in a grooming salon and became a certified veterinary technician in 1995. Dawn is a crucial part of our surgical team, making sure each pet is given one-on-one attention and seeing to their every need on surgery day. In her spare time, Dawn loves to be with her family, including her husband, kids and Taya the French bulldog/miniature dachshund mix. A fun fact about Dawn is that we call her the Marry Poppins of the clinic because no matter what you might need, you can probably find it in her purse!

Office Manager

Laurie is our office manager at our wonderful animal clinic. I was born and raise in a little town outside Akron, Ohio and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelors in Social Work. Her profession moved me to Florida back in 1981. I started in the veterinary field over 14 years ago and have loved every minute of it. During her years here at the clinic, Laurie has been blessed to give a home to two precious pups in need of a safe and happy place to live. She currently has a 10-pound chihuahua mix named Tuffy. Tuffy went from being a scared, abused little dog into a playful and loving companion. She also has a grand dog named Simba that spends most of his time with them and is best friends with Tuffy. When not working, Laurie spends every moment she can with her 8 beautiful grandchildren. They call her GiGi and keep her extremely busy and hopefully young, “at least at heart!” 

Erin is our client care coordinator and started with us in early 2025.  She is originally from upstate New York, and moved to Seminole Florida in 1992. Erin’s first kitty was diagnosed with fatty liver disease at a young age. While nursing her through that illness, she decided she wanted to understand and learn about the animal sciences. Animal welfare became her passion. She graduated from the vet tech program at SPC with honors and received her veterinary technician license in 2000. Outside of work, Erin stays busy with her two amazing kids, 2 sweet dogs and 2 crazy cats. Erin says that all her children, both 4 legged and 2 legged, are her everything. An interesting fact about Erin is that she was highlighted on SPC’s vet tech program pamphlet for many years. Erin has a love for helping the less fortunate, both humans and animals, and in her spare time she helps rescues with donations.
